Netherby PRIDE (PB4L)
Introduction

Ashburton Netherby School became part of the MOE’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) programme in 2012. A key initial impact of our involvement in PB4L was the development of our Netherby PRIDE values, namely:

-
Perseverance / Hiringa
-
Responsibility / Kawenga
-
Integrity / Ngaakau tapatahi
-
Diligence / Mamahitanga
-
Excellence / Hiranga

These were launched at the start of term 2, 2012 and since then have been a feature of how we acknowledge children’s social behaviours, both in and out of the classroom. This recognition occurs at assemblies, in the playground and inside classrooms on a daily basis.

We focus on a particular value in a two-week block. Typically we would cover all values across a ten-week term. A rostered class will share the key messages behind the focus value and/or lesson at assembly each fortnight.

The PB4L team comprises of the Principal, the senior management team, the PB4L lead teacher and teaching staff. The teaching staff meet termly to analyse behaviour data, discuss hotspot areas of concern around the school, identify children who may need extra support, and set goals for the following term.

Teachers have developed lesson plans to deliver key messages about how we expect students to act in a range of settings, e.g. cloak bays, classrooms, assembly, transition from class to class or after break times. These are taught in conjunction with the focus value on the termly coverage plan and also as a need arises and are reinforced on a regular basis.
